CM Shri Bhupendra Patel holds a one-on-one meeting with Shri Randhir Thakur

Gandhinagar, October 7, 2024: Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel today provides a one-tone discussion with Shri Randhir Thakur, CEO & MD, Tata Electronics. The conversation occurred while Shri Randhir Thakur was attending the Gujarat Semiconnect conference 2024, which was hosted at Mahatma Mandir by the Department of Science and Technology.

Dholera Plant and Job Creation Plan

In the meeting, Mr. Thakur praised the Gujarat government for its strong support of Tata Electronics to set up facilities in the state and declared plans for a top-of-the-line facility under plans at Dholera Special Investment Region, which is expected to create more than 100,000 direct and indirect jobs.

At the center of their talks was Thakur’s proposal for collaboration on social infrastructure that is connected to the plant. He proposed housing layouts, shopping areas, and other welfare facilities meant to improve the lives of employees and help keep talent retention.

The “Taiwan” Initiatives

An interesting part of the meeting was Thakur’s plans to push for a ′Taiwan Village′ next to the Dholera plant. This concept, inspired by Taiwan’s successful industrial clusters, is to form a tech-focused mini-community, which consists of R&D facilities, assembly plants, training centers, and friendly housing sections to foster semiconductor innovation.

Government Support and Strategic Alignment

The Gujarat chief minister declared complete support for Tata’s expansion, assuring Thakur that the state would ensure the rapid development of the requested social infrastructure. The chief minister highlighted Gujarat’s constant commitment to promoting an investor-friendly atmosphere, especially for high-tech and semiconductor industries, supported by adapted policies, skill-development frameworks, and efficient project approvals.

In attendance at the meeting were top government officials such as Chief Secretary Raj Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary Pankaj Joshi, S.J. Haider from the Industry Department, and Mona Khandhar, Principal Secretary of Science and Technology, showcasing the government’s robust collaboration across multiple departments.
