Dholera Smart Location Profile
Dholera is located in the Ahmedabad district, along the Gulf of Khambhat. Popular as a Greenfield port; it will be developed in collaboration with private sector involvement by Dholera Port Limited, which is backed by the J K Group and Adani Group.
Dholera is located near the coastline. It is enclosed by water on three sides: to the east by the Gulf of Khambhat, to the north by Bavaliari Creek, and to the south by Sonaria Creek.
The goal is to establish Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR) as a global manufacturing and trading hub, serving as “the engine for economic resurgence of the country,” supported by world-class infrastructure.
Dholera’s proximity to Ahmedabad offers a significant locational benefit, supported by a dynamic manufacturing sector and beneficial investment landscape.
The project covers an area of 35,000 hectares. The proposed processing area covers 14,000 hectares, while the balance is designated as a non-processing zone.
Dholera Port specializes in the handling of general cargo, dry bulk, containers, ship breaking, and chemical handling facilities.

- The Dholera Special Investment Region is linked to Ahmedabad, Bhavnagar, and Mumbai by National Highway 8. Dholera offers excellent connectivity with National Highway (NH) 8 (Anand) and 8A (Bagodra), enhancing the links between Bagodra-Bhavnagar and Bagodra-Surendranagar-Radhanpur.
- 500 km- The Gujarat Mumbai-Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway is vital as it is part of the Golden Quadrilateral and would help in opening the region very well. The creation of an airport and a seaport is also proposed to improve access to the area.
- The planned port site will be linked by road to the Ahmedabad– Bhavnagar highway, located approximately 11 kilometers away. Nearly 2,057 hectares of government land were designated for the development of the port.
- Dholera is also set to get rail connectivity soon. Meter gauge is the nearest rail facility to Dholera at Bhavnagar (34km) while a broad gauge facility is currently available to the city from Tarapur (103km).
